Pehlivan, şair ve hatip olarak tanınmıştır. Hz. Peygamberimizin (sav) huzurunda Hz. Ali’nin de bulunduğu bir ortamda Müslüman olmuştur. Kadisiye Savaşında İranlılara karşı gösterdiği büyük mücadelesi İslam Tarihlerinde ayrıntılı bir şekilde anlatılmaktadır. Hicretin 40. Yılında İstanbul’un fethi için İslam ordusu ile birlikte Çorum civarında şehit düşmüştür. Yiğitliği ve kahramanlığı onun halk arasında efsane olmasına yol açmıştır.
