    Erzurum'un sembolü olan Çifte Minareli Medrese'nin kitabesi olmadığından yapılış tarihi tam bilinmese de 13. yüzyılın sonlarında yapıldığı tahmin edilmektedir. Selçuklu Sultanı Alaattin Keykubat'ın kızı Hundi Hatun veya İlhanlı hanedanlarından Padişah Hatun tarafından yaptırılmış olabileceği düşüncesi ile adına Hatuniye Medresesi de denilmektedir.
    Avlulu, 2 katlı, 4 eyvanlı medrese tipinin anıtsal bir örneğidir.
