  • Bir "serbest stil" dansı olan salsa, rutin hareketlere bağlı kalınmaksızın doğaçlama olarak yapılır. Salsa, foxtrot veya samba gibi dans pistini tümüyle kullanmayı gerektiren danslardan değildir. Salsa dansı, Latin dansları kapsamında ele alınır. Diğer Latin dansları içinde en tanınanları merengue, cha cha cha (ça ça), bachata, mambo, samba ve rumba dır. Tango da Latin Amerika kökenli bir dans olmakla birlikte Türkiye'de Latin dansları denildiğinde genellikle, bir salon dansı olan tango haricindeki Latin dansları kastedilir.
