As a summary, Canon 350D, 400D, 30D, Nikon D80, D200 and Sony A100 has 1 cross-type sensor, which is located at the center. But moderately priced K10D has 9 of them.
This reveals the info about fast focusing ability of K10D. There were serious disadvantages in previous models. Pentax made a significant focusing improvement.
From recent news from Pentax, there are some lenses in development which will have supersonic direct drive motors, powered with piezo electric. So, it will be quieter and faster. They are similar to USM lenses of Canon and Silent Wave motors of Nikon.
The camera has 1/4000 min, 30 sec max shutter speed and bulb mode. With SR (Share Reduction) it can give 2.5 to 4 stops advantage in low light or tele-zoom shots.
